Financial support is offered to students on a competitive basis. Such assistance is usually in the form of a Graduate Research Assistantship. GRA stipends vary according to the availability of funds. Students supported by grant or project funds generally are expected to select a research problem that contributes to the grant or project. For all students on full-time assistantships, an effort will be made to have their in-state tuition paid. Partial teaching assistantships are sometimes available to help supplement student expenses.

For admission in Fall 2019, we expect a minimum TOEFL score of 90 (IBT) or IELTS score of 6.5 for admission. Further, TOEFL scores of 20 or greater in Listening, Writing, Speaking, and Reading subsections are required. Some departments may require higher minimum scores.
The Graduate School requires that all non-U.S. citizens or non-U.S. permanent residents demonstrate English proficiency to ensure they enter the university with sufficient English skills necessary to function in a graduate program. A TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System) test score is the most common way international applicants demonstrate English proficiency. We require a minimum TOEFL score of 80 (IBT) or IELTS score of 6.5 for admission. Some departments may require a higher minimum score.
