The city is well served by bus/rail links including trains to London every 30 minutes. East Midlands Airport is 21km (13 miles) from the city. There are late-night buses across the city and the existing tram network is currently being extended to serve the popular student area of Beeston. The University's campuses are award-winning: the 133.5-km (330-acre) University Park Campus has received 11 Green Flag Awards and helped the city of Nottingham to win Britain in Bloom 2008. The University of Nottingham has been ranked as having the most environmentally friendly campus worldwide according to the 2013 UI GreenMetric World University Ranking. In 2012, Nottingham was awarded an award for Outstanding Contribution to Sustainable Development, in recognition of commitment to creating sustainable ways of living and studying.

The University of Nottingham has 19 individual halls, each with their own identity and character, offering a vibrant and sociable environment, with both catered and self-catering options available. Living away from home for the first time can be daunting. The university's accommodation offers a secure, supportive environment: each hall has a manager, a warden/deputy warden and tutors for confidential support, and 24-hour security for added peace of mind. Second and third-year students can apply to return to any of the halls of residence, or can choose to move off campus into the local community, living near the university.
